Cooling Refrigerants of the Future. Stored in your air conditioner’s coils, refrigerants are liquids that cool and dehumidify your air. Without refrigerants, air conditioning would not be possible. For a long time, the most common AC refrigerant was R-22 (Freon), but in 2012 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated the phase-out of R-22 through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, it will no longer be legal to produce R-22 as a result of its negative effects on the environment. Introducing R-410A To reduce environmental impacts, all Lennox® products are now compatible with the new R-410A AC refrigerant. R-410A is EPA-recognized and doesn’t contain chlorine, making it ozone-friendly. You can feel good about using this refrigerant in Robstown because it’ll help make your AC operate efficiently, reliably and quietly, and offer the same cool comfort in the warmer months. Additional Considerations If your AC or heat pump was manufactured prior to 2010, it may not be R-410A-compatible. You may want to think about upgrading your cooling system before R-22 is totally unavailable. The old refrigerant will become rare in the next few years, costing you more to use your system effectively. The Lennox products we offer at McNatt Inc work with R-410A, so you know we have an AC or heat pump that better meets your needs. Additionally, steer clear of”alternate refrigerants that claim to work in R-22 systems. These include R-407C, R-438A and R-422, all of which can actually compromise your system’s performance.
